I've trained with several women. In general, there are occasionally embarrassing moments, but generally everyone treats class like what it is (training for a fight) instead of an opportunity to fondle a member of the opposite sex. A martial arts class is like a family. I wouldn't want any sleazy dude grabbing my sister, cousin, or mom, so I don't want anyone to grab my training family, either.

Legit reasons for not being allowed to train at another dojo?

You mistakenly assume cross training means you can just train in another school anytime you want. If we were to really examine the true spirit of cross training and the context in which it is used by martial artists, it assumes that the one who cross trains already has achieved a proficient level of skill and understanding of the basics of his base art. Meaning a 1st Degree Black belt in Karate who joins an Aikido class can be considered to be cross training, but a white belt in the same karate school joining an Aikido class would not. A white belt does not have the level of understanding and skill in one art enough to be able to compare, differentiate and appreciate the principles of both arts, so how can he be considered to be cross training? He's basically just learning two different skill sets at the same time, which as most would point out can hinder your progress in both arts. So I don't see anything wrong with your instructor prohibiting you from training in another school while you are still at novice or Kyu level.

What's a diet and exercise plan to help me lose 35 pounds in 2 to 3 months?

Right now I'm 6 foot and weigh 215 and I'd like to get down to 180 by August or September. Would going on the elliptical in the morning and going to the gym to either a spinning class, zumba class, kick boxing, yoga, etc move things along faster? I have two parakeets and one lovebird whom I love very much. I spend a lot of time with the lovebird as the parakeets do not favor human attention. My father has a "holier than thou" attitude, along with his girlfriend and constantly claims only what they think is right. He also refuses to take one of the parakeets to the vet, who has a weird growth on it's nose. He claims he's seen it fall off, which it has not done; everything I've looked up about it says it needs to be checked out. I'm baffled by how much they supposedly know when they've never bothered to look anything up themselves. The girlfriend has this mindset than all animals should be kept outside at all times, which has led to out dog being outside all the time, even in our cold winters. I'm tired of arguing and just want what's best for the birds. Am I wrong about the birds needing to be inside at night?

Hello, Me and my partner have been down this road as we both wanted to become carry our children so it was a mutual and non-jealous type of thing. she was able to become pregnant but unable to carry it was a devastating situation. Just remind her that the child belongs to both of you so she is still a mother regardless which one of you carry.Is this going to solve everything? No. Make sure she is there every step of the way for the child and made to feel as just as much importance. Each doctor visit make sure she has a part of it.. make the comments "Look at OUR child" "WE are so lucky." It's important for them to feel as much of a part of the pregnancy and raising the child as you. In a lot of states same sex couples are allowed to sign as both mother and father. In our case she filled her name in under father because the one carrying is automatically listed as mother obviously. It will be tough I promise you. What am I doing wrong when drying my car after washing it?

Alright, so today I cleaned my car off in the driveway. I followed the instructions (rinse car off with water first from top to bottom, fill up a gallon of water and mix 1oz of car wash fluid with it, use a car wash mit to clean the car from top to bottom, finish with another water rinse from top to bottom, then towel dry with a microfiber towel). However, when I used my microfiber towel it was shedding as I was drying my car. I read reviews online about the towel and it got 5/5 stars, so apparently it's not the towel. I must have done something wrong. What did I do wrong? The towel was brand new by the way, if that matters.

Yeah... No one here knows what they're talking about except for MAYBE the last guy. First off no MMA fighter NEEDS to learn BJJ. There is no rule that states you NEED BJJ to fight, it all depends on what the fighter wants to learn. Yes BJJ is a HUGE part of MMA and many many many MMA fighters have BJJ under thier belt but they don't NEED BJJ. Also they don't need BJJ to be an effective fighter, they could wrestle, or do Judo, etc. And why do you only refer to "MMA training"? GSP is one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world and he doesn't do "MMA training" He separates training of many martial arts instead of mixing it all together to do "MMA training" I do the same. Basically there is no set regiment of training, how to do it, or what you need to learn.

Why are my cats suddenly attacking one another?

I have three cats. Bobbie (8 year old female), Lee J (7 year old male), and Bella (4 year old female). They have all lived together, with only the occasional spat, for four years now. Then, the other day they discovered a mouse in the basement that they all were stalking. None of them caught it (it went into a trap that we had set up), but a violent fight occurred over this (that I did not witness, but heard). We calmed them down with some food, but after wards Bobbie went tearing after Lee J, hissing and batting at him, while he ran scared. I went and found him, and picked him up to comfort him, when Bella came in the room and started violently attacking me (biting leading to blood and bruises) trying to get to Lee J. We separated them, putting Bella and Bobbie in a room, and Lee J in another for the night. For the next two days they acted fine with each other, but then at night we woke up to another fight of the two female cats against my male. We separated them again for the night, but then in the morning when we let them out, Bobbie started sniffing around, found Lee J's scent, tracked him to his hiding spot, and started to violently attack him. He is currently removed from the situation (my mom is going to take care of him for a little while and have my dad [a vet] look at him). This has never happened before. My cats have always been peaceful and have gotten along with each other (in fact, Lee J is Bobbie's biological son). All of them are spayed and neutered. But, it is strange that the female cats are not fighting with each other, only attacking my male cat. Even my dad is perplexed why they suddenly turned on one another. try some classes first then decide. any martial art if you enjoy it and are motivated will be best for you. the instructor can make a bigger difference than the art. Self defence is something else. look at what's available near you, what times are best for you to fit round school work and parents. most clubs offer a free first session. so go along see if you like the place, the teacher, the other students. you will need to find other girls to spar with if you want to get good at any martial art. guys either take it light out of respect or act like numpties and hurt you to prove something. the club should make you feel welcome and have good discipline, a safe, clean training room, instructors should have full qualifications in their art, first aid training, coaching certifications and enhanced crb clearance. All martial arts are ok for women. train regularly and smartly and it will be the other factors that decide how effective the art is for you. I've done karate, ju-jitsu, kung fu, tai chi, krav maga and learnt alot from every style but i got good at the arts i practised most at clubs that treated me with respect.

I kinda already do it to a degree with my extensive roping, running and minimal weight lifting which is only 3 times a week doing low weight and high reps. Next to my gym, there is a MMA, Caperara, Kick-boxing, Boxing, and Jujitsu school for fitness and combat training. I'm seriously considering doing either the boxing or MMA. What would you recommend or would you even say I'm too old? Hello, I recently just completed a pre-employment drug screen which includes a cotinine screen as part of the requirements for getting hired, provided the cotinine test result is negative. My test was last Wednesday June 22 and my last bought of nicotine usage was on Sunday June 19. I was a pack a day smoker. Kickboxing or Brazilian Jujitsu?

Kickboxing. It takes years to master BJJ well enough to subdue a much larger opponent. In BJJ a twenty pound weight difference is huge, just ask anyone who competes in the absolute division in a grappling tourament. It would be stupid for you, a small woman, to pull guard or shoot for a takedown where you can be easily out muscled. If you learn kickboxing no matter how big an opponent is you can back peddle, cut the angles to pick your shots, and get on the inside of their longer reach and do damage. Just make sure you're training by hitting mits and sparring with live opponents and not doing some ridiculous cardio kickboxing class.

Personally, I train in Bjj and Muay Thai. But I'm far more interested in Bjj... It depends on what your looking for. The two couldn't be more different. Once is a fast paced brutal slug fest based around a small technique set... The other (bjj) a patient focused strategy match based on an endless number of techniques and varieties. For me, bjj is where it's at!

Lower left abdomen pain?

I'm a 21 year old female and I've had a sharp pain in my lower left abdomen for a few weeks now. It started after running a few miles and It's come and gone and would flair up during any kind of physical activity from climbing stairs to working out but even a cough or a sneeze would make it hurt. Today however it go to the point where I was in tears, I was at a jujitsu class and while grappling with someone it got so bad i fell to the ground instantly. I left class came home and have been taking it easy but the pain hasn't faded. I have a doctors appointment on Wednesday to get it checked. My only questions right now are should I wait until my appointment, or should I go to the urgent care center and what the hell could this be.

Why do I keeping waking up at the same time every night?

I don't have much trouble going to sleep. I usually go to bed around 11-12 to get at least 8 hours in. For the past few weeks, though, I have been waking up pretty much at 4am on the dot every morning. I can usually get back to sleep without much trouble, but this is really annoying. I'm 22 years old and 6ft 2in. I weigh 345lbs about 2 months ago I weighed 380lb when I started working out. I eat 4 or 5 meals with a day. I aim for 1100 calories, avoid carbs and 70g of protein a day. And example of what I eat a day is 6:00am I eat usually one serving of protein special K with silk soy milk, 9:00am I eat a small cup of chobani greek yogurt with fruit inside, 12:00pm I eat a whole wheat wrap with either boars head turkey or grilled chicken with some roasted peppers some-times some turkey bacon or tomato no cheese. 4:00 (this meal I sometimes skip) I drink one serving of a juice drink I find in the healthfood section of A&P and then I go to the gym and after the gym I usually eat a grilled chicken breast, chicken sausage or a can or reduced calorie tuna (drained). Most weekends I usually fall off the diet wagon but I most definetly stay away from processed or fast food and I keep portion control. I usually go to a bar or parties on saturdays or fridays and I drink usually bud light, vodka or whiskey on the rocks. Ok now for my workout. Monday I do and hour on the elipticle (mid-high resistance) I do about 8000 strides, Tuesday I take a moi-thai/ jujitsu MMA class its about an hour, Wednessday I do 30min on the elipticle, rowing machine, crunch machine, leg press and about 3 sets of 20 for all of them on the highest weight that I can accomplish all of my sets. Thursday I take a break, Friday I do 30min on the elipticle and 2 or 3 random workouts, Saturday I rest and Sunday I meet up with my friends for a baseball game. The parts of my body that I am most fat at are my butt and thighs. My ultimate goal is to achive a 6pack which I understand will take a long time. I do smoke (just under half a pack a day which is an improvement from one a day). Summer is coming so I want to start swimming. Every morning I take a mens one a day, green tea extract capsul, omega3 fish oil and folic acid. Id like to try a weightloss suppliment if anyone has a suggestion.

She had her pups under there because it is cool and shaded. all pups born outdoors are at risk for dying but they are safer under ther then not. in a couple weeks im sure you will find em waddling around the yard, fat and healthy. They just might not let you catch em! Also be careful if you attemp to pull em out. The momma might not like that idea and become aggressive, even if she has never done it before. Momma dogs are very unpredictable!

Diet changes making me gain?

I have recently been told i am Gluten Intolerant, while it sucks that i will have so many restriction's i was also happy to know that i would be able to shed those stubborn 10-15 pounds ive been trying to get rid of this year. I'm about a week into my new diet and ive gone from eating nothing but pizza, white bread, kraft dinner, and a wide variety of junk, to yogurt, fresh fruits and veggies, and lean cuts of meat. my portion sizes have also been slightly reduced, not that portion control was ever an issue... anyways. instead of losing about 3 pounds in the week with my new diet and the walking ive been doing to the grocery store for fresh produce... i have instead managed to gain 10 pounds!! A friend of mine say's that the sudden 360' i did with my diet likely put my system into a kind of shock and i will gain for another two weeks before i start losing weight. I guess my question is... is this possible, has it happened to anyone else? Im also open to suggestions! Thanks :)

Does krav maga mainly consist of striking or grappling?

Krav incorporates both. The striking is mainly based off boxing in terms of proper technique and a majority of the strikes it teaches but also uses open palm strikes, karate chops and hammer fists. It also teaches low risk kicks like groin shots and what have you. Nothing like you would see in a tkd fight unless your a high level practitioner of krav. The grappling part is more defensive and wrestling based if anything. They wont teach you how to fight on the ground but rather more defensive techniques to GET off the ground and to your feet. But if you do find yourself in a bind they do teach you how to perform guillotines, arm bars, triangle chokes, etc. Krav is a brutal form of defense to quickly immobilize your opponent and to get out fast, not to hang around, exchange blows and grapple.

If the case of the Gracies their feeling of proudness for their Style of Brazilian Jujitsu may be perceived as arrogant by some Americans. Remenber, the Gracies are brazilians and as with any foreign culture, they have a different way of cultural expression. That don't necessarily make them posers.I think that the way the Gracies and their followers express their proudness for their style is little bragging and challenging. They thing they can be anybody in the planet. Of course, inside an octagon, playing ground fighting with a referee and no other bad guys attacking, you most be the winner, right?. Now, do that on the streets of the Bronx or Puerto Rico and you are dead. I consider Brazilian Jujitsu more for competition than for self defense. In a real live attack you don't want to be 10 minutes rolling on the floor looking for a submission.If you fall on the ground you most pound and stand up again to flee danger or fight other attackers. That is real life.

How do I stop my little boy drinking tups/paint thinner?

I am a single dad bringing up a 7 year old (Adam). My wife left us last month but we are making the most out of a terrible situation. One thing that has occured is I caught Adam drinking chemicals from under the kitchen sink, toilet bleach and other cleaners. He said that it tasted like alcohol we give him at Chritsmas time. He begs me every day to buy him more but I keep telling him that he might get sick or food poisoning. To cut a long story shorter in the last week he has been sipping turps and paint thinner from the garden shed. I bought him two bottles of industrial paint thinner as the smell is unbearable and am hoping the smell puts him off but he still keeps taking sips.
