What am I doing wrong when drying my car after washing it?

Alright, so today I cleaned my car off in the driveway. I followed the instructions (rinse car off with water first from top to bottom, fill up a gallon of water and mix 1oz of car wash fluid with it, use a car wash mit to clean the car from top to bottom, finish with another water rinse from top to bottom, then towel dry with a microfiber towel). However, when I used my microfiber towel it was shedding as I was drying my car. I read reviews online about the towel and it got 5/5 stars, so apparently it's not the towel. I must have done something wrong. What did I do wrong? The towel was brand new by the way, if that matters.
