My American Akita is a year old already but hasn't shed like everyone is telling me.?

Everyday I sweep about a handful of his hair. I brush him everyday and even skip some days but there is no clumps of hair falling out. I was wondering because I was told they shed 2 times a year for about a month when does this happen. Any info will be greatly appreciated and any websites and web groups I can join to further my knowledge on this breed. Thanks
